Town Councillor
The son of former town councillor Patrick Coppin, commonly known as Pat, and well known local business owner Eileen, Andy is Bodmin born and raised.
Andy is married to Selina, is the proud father of an adult daughter and son in addition to two stepdaughters and was until retiring early a long time car sales manager. Prior to this, Andy was previously a trainee surveyor in the drawing office of the now defunct North Cornwall District Council.
In addition to his work as a Bodmin Town Council member, Andy is predominantly preoccupied with being a ‘favourite slave’ to several cats.

What inspired Andy Coppin to serve as a town councillor?
My Dad was a town councillor, and he sadly died before he had the chance to become mayor.
While my initial intention was to make him proud and serve my town like he did, I have remained as a councillor for as long as I have as I want to ensure I can use my experience and skills to benefit Bodmin.
Is Andy Coppin paid?
This is a question that I am asked a lot. The short answer, is no.
While Cornwall Councillors are paid a wage and expenses, town councillors only receive a small expenses allowance of £180 a year, before tax. Some councillors don’t claim this allowance, others tend to donate it to local causes.
What is Andy’s vision for Bodmin?
Despite its status as the historic county town of Cornwall, Bodmin is often forgotten in the eyes of a West Cornwall centric local authority.
While the Bodmin bypass was welcomed in the 1970s, it is often the case that our proud town is bypassed in the eyes of the local authority decision makers.
Bodmin has a lot to offer and has a community which often rises to the challenges the town faces. It is Andy’s wish that politicians elected on a county and national level step up to aspire to that too.
As well as his work as a town councillor, Andy works to offer direct solutions to challenges rather than just putting it on a campaign poster. Recently, he has made it his mission to ensure Bodmin’s roads are safer, and has launched a team of volunteers dedicated to making the town look tidier – the Bodmin Weed It Team.
